Edge Deburr

Tools: Whetstone, edge bevel guide, brake retainers, vise/bench

1. Prepare skis, tools Locate burrs Stroke finger or thumb along full length of each edge with very light pressure. Burrs will feel rough.
Install brake retainers
Place ski in vise, edge-up, base facing away from you.
Use the spring clamp to hold the whetstone to the edge bevel guide.

2. Deburr side edge

Wet the whetstone with cutting fluid or water.

Place the edge guide along the ski base and lower it until the stone touches the edge. With medium pressure, stroke the stone back and forth across burrs. Keep the base leg of the guide flat on the ski base.

When the stone hits the burrs, it will sound "crunchy" and feel different. Keep stroking until the burrs are gone. Test by stroking with your finger, and by listening.

Wet the stone periodically as you work.

Turn the ski over in the vise to work on the other edge. Point the ski tip in the other direction so the base faces away from you.

4. Finish Use a rag or paper towel to wipe any residue off the base and edges. Clean the whetstone with an old toothbrush.
