PMTS Direct Parallel®

PMTS Direct Parallel® - the Alternative Ski Teaching System

PMTS Direct Parallel® is unique - it is the only complete ski teaching system today that is an alternative to the traditional, wedge-based systems. It teaches expert-level movements to all levels of skiers, avoiding dead-end maneuvers that must be unlearned. These expert movements are biomechanically accurate - based on how the body moves - and they take advantage of how skis are designed. Skiing progress comes through refining the same movements, rather than learning and discarding maneuvers. The PMTS Direct Parallel® technique works well on all skis, traditional or shaped, and is the only teaching system that unlocks all the performance potential in the new shaped skis.

Beginning skiers through experts accelerate their improvement by learning and practicing basic movements that lead to expert, parallel skiing, rather than learning obscure skills and discardable maneuvers. All movements taught in PMTS Direct Parallel® help the skier to achieve and maintain balance.

PMTS Direct Parallel® is not a modification of a previous, traditional ski teaching system - it's a completely new system designed for shaped skis. When taking a ski school lesson, you must ask for a PMTS Direct Parallel® lesson or you'll receive some version of the snowplow progression. Take a lesson at one of our licensed resorts to ensure that you receive the PMTS Direct Parallel® Lesson that you want.

What does PMTS stand for? The original name we used for the system was "Primary Movements Teaching System™". But PMTS Direct Parallel sounds better, AND it's a registered trademark!

Harb Skier Alignment System™

The system of biomechanical assessment and equipment solutions that maximizes skier performance

The Harb Skier Alignment System™ evaluates your body's movement capability, then helps you tailor your equipment to maximize your skiing potential. This includes designing an optimal foot bed, configuring your boots, and installing alignment shims. Harb Ski Systems wants to provide the information that will help you make better purchasing decisions: which shaped ski will actually help you ski better, why certain boots will help you to turn, and why certain foot beds will help you to balance. Working with a trained Harb Skier Alignment Center™ will help eliminate equipment barriers to your success as a skier.

Student Directed Ski Instruction™

The teaching approach that uses a student's needs and motivations to design a learning environment

The foundation of this approach is the ongoing assessment of the student's needs and whether his/her expectations are being met. The teaching environment is focused on the student's motivation for skiing, and the method by which he/she would like to be taught.

PMTS Direct Parallel® Instructor Accreditation

An instructor who achieves the PMTS Direct Parallel® accreditation demonstrates a new standard in ski teaching

The PMTS Direct Parallel® Accredited Instructor's understanding is based in a biomechanically accurate movement system. He/She is trained in kinesiology and the importance of the kinetic chain of the body, to prepare him/her for a clear and accurate understanding of skiing movement, and how it relates to equipment and alignment adjustment. The PMTS Direct Parallel® Accredited Instructor is also trained in Student Directed Ski Instruction™, which establishes a standard of communication heretofore unknown in the ski industry.
