The Power Pivot 8 Board™, made by Grail Sports, Inc., is a fun and versatile training device. It resembles an "8" shaped base with two pivoting platforms (like lazy susans!) With it, you can work on one-footed balance, transfer of balance from foot to foot, symmetry, and developing limberness in your hips and torso. Please contact Grail Sports for more information or to obtain a board!

Power Pivot 8 Board(TM)

You place one foot on the black, no-slip circle on each platform. The two platforms pivot freely and independently on the base.
Caution: Unless you've studied dance or figure skating, you'll probably find that you become dizzy quite quickly with some of the spinning activities. Use the Power Pivot 8 Board™ in an open location, where you have plenty of room all around the board for "inadvertent dismounts".

Goal

Description
1. Double pivot

Familiarity with device, symmetry, limber torso Place both feet on the platform. Pivot both feet back and forth, letting the rest of the body move opposite the feet. Keep both feet aimed the same direction - avoid becoming duck- or pigeon-toed.  Stay relaxed in the hips and torso. Aim for a consistent rhythm.
2. Single spin (outwards)

Stance foot balance, symmetry Place one foot on a platform. Gently push off forwards with the other foot (as though you were pushing yourself on a skateboard or scooter) so you spin outwards on your pivoting foot. See how far around you can spin, while staying in balance. Perform with each foot.
3. Single spin (inwards) Stance foot balance, symmetry Place one foot on a platform. Gently push off backwards with the other foot (as though you were pushing yourself backwards on a skateboard or scooter) so you spin inwards on your pivoting foot. See how far around you can spin, while staying in balance. Perform with each foot.
4. Two feet to single spin Transfer of balance Stand with both feet on the platforms. Without pivoting to begin with, perform an outward spin on one foot (lift up the other foot). Perform with each foot. Then, perform inward spins on each foot.
5. Pivoting to single spin Transfer of balance With both feet on the platforms, pivot as in #1. Once you have an easy rhythm, move into an outward spin on one foot. Try not to break the rhythm. Perform with each foot.
6. Single spin switch Balance and transfer Start with a spin on one foot. Set the lifted foot on the other platform, lift the first stance foot, and continue to spin in the same sense on the new foot. Perform with each foot.
7. Single spin, reverse switch Balance and transfer Start with a spin on one foot. Set the lifted foot on the other platform, lift the first stance foot, and reverse the direction of spin on the new foot. Perform with each foot.

As you can see, you're only limited by your imagination in inventing ways to use the board to improve your balance!
