PMTS All-Mountain Camp at Arapahoe Basin, Colorado
Session full! Please enroll in Big Sky All-Mountain camp, or click here for waiting list details.

Overview

This four-day ski camp is designed for the advanced level skier wanting to improve skiing the whole mountain, whatever the conditions - bumps, powder, ungroomed, and steeps. Skiers must be comfortable skiing on advanced terrain and must have experience in ungroomed conditions to attend. (Please read "Pre-camp skiing evaluation, below".) The camp includes six hours of lessons per day. The lessons will focus on efficient technique and tactics, with sufficient practice time and personal feedback. Video analysis will be used (weather dependent).

There will be a maximum of six skiers per group to ensure significant personal attention.

An on-snow assessment of your alignment is part of the camp. The on-snow balance assessment will take place during the lesson hours on the first day. Any participants wishing to make changes to their equipment as a result of the assessment will be accommodated on a first-come, first-serve basis outside of the lesson hours.

Pre-camp skiing evaluation

Arapahoe Basin has a limited amount of introductory all-mountain terrain. If you are an aspiring all-mountain skier, but do not yet have much experience in skiing the ungroomed, you will make faster progress if you attend a session with less-demanding terrain. If you are not already regularly skiing ungroomed conditions, then you should come to the Copper Mountain session of the Blue/Dark Blue camp first.

In order to place you in the camp where you'll learn the most and the fastest, we have a "pre-camp skiing evaluation". If you meet the standards in #1 or #2, below, you should enroll in the All-Mountain camp. If you do not meet either standard, then you should enroll in a Copper Mountain session of the Blue/Dark Blue camp first.

1. If you ski all day long on ungroomed, expert terrain in the Northeast, the Rockies or on the West coast (also Europe or Australia), go ahead and sign up for the All-Mountain camp.
2. If you meet all of the following requirements, go ahead and enroll in the All-Mountain camp:

Terrain Task
Groomed intermediate terrain Can make parallel turns: tails stay parallel, and do not separate, at start of turns
Moguls Can link 10 turns in moguls and stay in control
Groomed intermediate terrain Can link 20 short turns in a corridor the width of a groomer track (about 4 meters)
Crud, slush, ice, AND powder Can link 20 turns with control in all of those snow conditions

3. If you're not sure that you meet all the conditions of #2, you can send us a video of yourself skiing in ungroomed terrain (moguls or crud). We'll watch it and let you know whether you should attend the All-Mountain or Blue/Dark Blue camp. Contact us before sending the video so that we get the right format.

Footbed and alignment "pre-day"

If you know that you would like to have footbeds made, if you would like the complete indoor alignment assessment, or if you would like to buy new boots while at camp, we encourage you to come to camp one day early. Because the actual camp has full days of coaching, it is very difficult to accommodate campers who would like the complete indoor alignment session during the camp days. The day immediately prior to camp will be reserved for campers. Contact us for more information, or circle the alignment pre-day option on the enrollment form.

Dates

January 2-5, 2008 (Wednesday - Saturday)
Footbed pre-day: Tuesday, January 1

Lesson Times

approximately 9:00 - 3:30 each day

Cost

$800 ($200/day) plus lift ticket

Lift Ticket Cost

As part of our operating agreement with Arapahoe Basin, our campers must buy group rate lift tickets. (Please do not buy lift tickets with your lodging.) If you have a season pass at A-Basin, you do not need to get the group lift tickets; please let us know when you enroll.

TBD - Approx. $45/day

Travel & Lodging Information

Arapahoe Basin is an ideal location for our All-Mountain camp. Within its compact layout, it offers a wide array of terrain. There's little time wasted getting around the mountain. New for 07-08 is a brand new chair in Montezuma Bowl, expanding the terrain significantly.

Arapahoe Basin ("A-Basin") ski area is located about 70 miles west of Denver International Airport on US Highway 6. There is no lodging at A-Basin. Most campers stay in Summit County - Silverthorne, Frisco, Dillon - about a 15 minute drive west of A-Basin. Summit County offers a large array of dining and lodging choices, and is located along Interstate 70.

See A-Basin's website for more information about lodging options, driving directions, etc.
